Q. What is a Short Film?
A Short Film is a 5-8 minute artistically composed highlight video of your wedding day. All of the videos posted on our blog are examples of Short Films.
Q. What is an edit of the full ceremony/speeches/first dances?
While a Short Film is a highlight of your special day, the full edits feature the completely edited ceremony, speeches, and/or first dances (bride and groom, father daughter, mother son), depending on what is purchased. The final edits will be delivered on a USB thumb drive.
Q. What is the edit of a special choreographed dance?
A lot of our couples do a really fun choreographed dance during the reception. Shawn can edit this and upload it to Vimeo so you can share it on social media. Here is one he made for Katie + Kai, and here is one he made for Sara + Alan.
Q. What is the Raw Footage?
The Raw Footage is every single shot, from every single camera, we have running that day. As well as all the different audio files. We have at least 2 cameras running the whole day, 3 cameras during speeches, and 4 cameras during the ceremony. As you can imagine, this is a LOT of footage. And it is Raw: no color correction, the audio isn’t cleaned up, and it is hundreds of video file clips. This is a great option to get if you have basic video editing skills and want to the full edits yourself, or if you simply want to have all the footage from that day. We highly recommend buying this if you think you may want to purchase the full edits down the road. While we do our best to keep all the video footage from every wedding we shoot, you can rest assured if you have a copy of it in your possession as well.
Q. Can I add A La Carte options to my package after the initial contract is signed?
Of course! You are welcome to add additional services at any time before the wedding. While we are not required to by our contract, we also retain a copy of all of the Raw footage of every wedding we shoot that we keep on a hard drive in a fireproof, flood proof locked safe. So unless there is some horrible act of God that damages that footage, if you later decide you want to add a full edit or purchase the Raw footage you can do so after the wedding as well. To be extra safe, it’s always a safe bet to at least buy the Raw Footage so you’ll have a copy of that. (But we’ve never had any damage to any footage, and still have all the footage from every single wedding we’ve ever shot.)
Q. What type of equipment do you shoot with?
We shoot with Canon HDSLR cameras since that gives a shallow depth of field, and more of a “film” look to the video. For audio we have lavalier microphones (discreet, wireless clip-on microphones) to be used for the ceremony, first look, etc.; as well as a shotgun mic for the camera and an external digital recorder that can tie into the DJ’s audio platform. Shawn likes to have all of his audio bases covered.
Q. Who are the 2 cinematographers who will be filming my wedding?
Natalie and Shawn film all the weddings together.
Q. How much time should I reserve you for?
Natalie will work closely with you to help create a timeline of the day. We will arrive about 30 minutes before the bride is scheduled to get her makeup done. During this time we will get detail shots of the dress, shoes, rings and accessories, followed by coverage of the bride getting her makeup done and the whole getting ready process. Our packages include 8 hours of coverage. Every wedding is different, but this is generally enough time for us to cover the entire ceremony, speeches, cake cutting, dances, and a few songs of open dancing. For the purpose of the Short Film that is all we need.
We are happy to stay longer should you want to book us for additional hours. This is recommended if your wedding is taking place over a longer period of time, you are doing a special send off, or want coverage of the entire day from beginning to end. About 15 minutes before our scheduled leaving time, we always check with the bride and groom to see if there are any other shots they want us to get. At this time, you are welcome to choose to have us stay longer at a rate of $200 per hour, charged in 15 minute increments.
Q. What is your typical turn around time?
Our “official” turn around time is 4 months for the Short Film to be edited and posted digitally (on Vimeo, our blog, and Facebook). If you purchased just the Raw Footage, we will mail it to you as soon as the Short Film is complete. If full edits are purchased, these will be completed and mailed within 6 months. We always strive to complete the process sooner.
Q. Can I choose the songs used in the films?
Selecting the songs used in the Short Film is a very important decision since it sets the tone and mood of the video. Natalie spends hours listening to music and marking songs that will work well. Shawn’s goal is to tell your story with all its joy and excitement, so it works well if the music compliments the build/anticipation as we follow you through the day. We’re happy to work with you in the song selection. But if you aren’t able to decide on your song choices (or just don’t feel like making another decision!) we are more than happy to choose it for you.
Q. Do you travel to shoot weddings outside of the Bay Area?
Yes! We are happy to travel. We charge a flat rate travel fee, and the client is responsible for all costs of travel (flights, hotel, rental car, etc).
Q. Why are some of the A La Carte items subject to tax?
If you reside in California, and we deliver any tangible products to you (thumb drive for full edits and/or Raw Footage), the government requires you to pay sales tax on those products. If you live outside of California, or the final product is delivered to an address outside of California, you are exempt from sales tax. (You can read the official information from the government here.)
Q. Is the Short Film subject to tax?
No, the Short Film is not subject to tax since it is posted online and there is no tangible product. It is therefore considered a “service” rather than a “good”.
Q. How do we reserve our date?
We only do 15 weddings a year, so the sooner you book us the better! If we are available, we will send over your invoice and contract for you to review. You will have a temporary 7 day hold on the date while you take the time to read through the contract, sign it, and send in your $500 deposit. Once we receive your signed contract and deposit the date will be permanently reserved for you. If the 7 day temporary hold lapses the date will no longer be held and will be opened up for anyone else who has inquired for that date. The remaining balance is due 15 days prior to the event.
Q. Do you have any vendor recommendations?
Yes! Check out our vendor recommendations to see who we’ve worked with in the past that we would highly recommend you use at your wedding.
