Q. What is Natalie’s photography style?
I am a self taught photographer. My approach to photography is simple: I want to help you remember this moment in your life in beautifully captured photos. My favorite photos I take are the ones that capture “real” moments. The way you look at each other. When you bust up laughing. When you fix his hair for him. When he holds your hand as you’re walking. Along with the typical “posed” photo’s you would expect at a portrait session, my real goal is to take pictures that reflect your personality.
I am very easy to get along with, and will pose you in ways that are most flattering (don’t worry ladies, I’ll make sure you look skinny!). My clients often become my friends.
Q. How many pictures do I get?
A lot. Some photographers will have a maximum number of pictures they deliver to you, where they will go thru and choose the photo’s that they think are “best”. I can never make that decision for you. I’m picky when it comes to pictures of myself, and want to see them all. I assume you will too! I only delete photos where eyes are closed, etc, and give you all the rest. This may mean you’ll get several similar shots of the same pose. That way you can choose which one you think is best.
I also edit all of the photo’s I deliver to you in both color and black & white. And all the pictures are in hi resolution without a watermark. The photo’s I post on our site and Facebook page have a watermark, but the ones I give you do not.
In short, you will have plenty to choose from.
Q. How long will it take to get my pictures?
I edit fairly quickly. Usually just a week or two for 1 hour sessions. And within 4 weeks for weddings.
Q. How will I get my pictures?
I will mail them to you on a USB thumb drive. There will be 4 folders: Hi Res Color, Web Ready Color, Hi Res Black & White, Web Ready Black & White. The hi res files are for printing, the web ready files are a smaller resolution file that will upload much faster for posting online (to email, post on Facebook, etc.)
I also upload my favorite photos to our site and to our Facebook page right when I’m done editing, the same day I mail them to you. I’ll email you once they’re up so you can hop over and get a sneak peek! I don’t tag you in the photo’s so they won’t automatically show up in your friends news feed. Would hate to “steal your thunder”. But you are welcome to tag yourself in them! I love it when you do.
And if you could tag us (@acornfilmsbayarea on Facebook, @acorn_films on Instagram) if you share any of the pictures I took of you on social media, or say “photo via Acorn Films”, it would make me oh so happy!
Q. How do I book you for a photography session?
Email me and we’ll schedule a time! I am available most weekdays at any time of day, and some weekends. We often are filming/photographing weddings on weekends, so check with me for my availability. You can book it far in advance, or just a few days prior. Payment the day of the photography session is just fine.
Q. What is the best time of day for an outdoor photography session?
For an outdoor session, my favorite time is 1.5 hours before the sun goes down, or 1.5 hours after the sun comes up. It is beautiful golden light, and since the sun is lower in they sky you won’t have any harsh shadows or squinty eyes.
Q. I don’t know where I want to take my pictures, can you help me choose?
Yes! If you like outdoorsy and rustic, my favorite spot to take your photos is actually at our house! Shawn and I live on a small ranch in San Ramon that has so many different amazing shooting locations. Barns, hay bales, rustic fences, open fields, creek, etc. Plus, there is no one else around so we don’t have to worry about strangers being in the background of your pictures.
But I am happy to take your photo’s anywhere you like in the East Bay Area. If you want to take them outside of the East Bay Area, I am able to travel for a fee.
Q. When should I book you for my newborn session?
The ideal time for a newborn session is when the baby is between 5-14 days old. This gives you a few days to bond with your new baby and learn their routine, but the baby is still very tiny and sleepy, and able to easily pose.
Q. Where will you take my newborn photos?
My favorite place is at your home. This is the easiest for the new parents since you won’t have to pack up and go anywhere. All I need for good photos is a window anywhere in the house that gets good light. When I get to your house, I’ll walk around and find the best spot, then we’ll set up. Have any cute outfits or accessories you want your baby to wear set aside, and any blankets you want to use as the background of the photos. I have quite a few blankets that I bring that you can choose from as well.
Some parents just want photos of the baby, some want photos of the baby and photos with themselves and/or siblings in it. I am happy to do either! I also love taking photos of the nursery so you will always remember how it looked right when your baby came home.
Q. Can you photograph my wedding?
Yes! I love photographing weddings. Here is my wedding day pricing. We are so often booked to film the weddings, so it is a fun treat when I get to be the photographer instead of the videographer. I bring Shawn along too as my second shooter.
